A painting, an early morning princess party, and some other random stuff

As mentioned in a previous post, here is Betsy's painting, Winter Bouquet, in her room.  It was our very first gift to her.  (Well, besides the gift of life, I guess.)

On April 29th, somewhere around 3am pacific time, Betsy and I just happened to already be up so we turned on the tv and watched the royal wedding.  It was so much fun!  And I didn't intentionally plan it, but B happened to be wearing her princess pj's for the occasion.

This was Betsy's first nap in her actual crib.  (don't call CPS on me for having bumpers and 'stuff' in her crib. I'm a rebellious parent)  If you're wondering why my cell phone is in there with her too, I have a white noise app which helped Betsy fall and stay asleep.  Works like a charm!  I think I also got used to sleeping with noise during this time because I now have to sleep with a fan on.  There are several different nature sounds to choose from.  Our favorites were the rolling stream and the thunderstorm.

And now for random cuteness:

2 months old

The official 2 month picture:
SO SAD! :(

This picture represents her well at this age because Betsy did not like being put down for very long.  She preferred being held at all times and wasn't afraid to let me know it.

At her two month doctor visit on May 23rd, Betsy was 12 lb., 7.5 oz., 22 3/4 inches long, and her head was 15 1/2 inches.  For both height and weight that put her in about the 75th percentile, and her head was about 90th. (to hold her above-average size brain, of course)  Then there was the unfortunate incident of her first shots.  I'm still a little scarred from it and no one stuck any needles in me.  I can only imagine how Betsy feels!

Before heading to the doctor that morning, Betsy wanted to surprise her daddy with a "happy birthday" message for him:

Night out on the town

(just a little "editor's note":  I started this post forever ago.  just pretend I actually posted it then too.) :)

Betsy attended her first social event on April 23rd: a fundraiser for our friend's emerging dance company, Lane Hunter Dance.  She slept through most of it in the Ergo baby carrier, but she was admired by all who met her!  She enjoyed the night and plans to continue supporting the arts.

A not-so-happy Betsy, ready to head home.
As a board member, Scott stayed to help wrap up the event but he walked Betsy and I to our car.

Betsy learns life isn't always fun and games...

Up to her two month check up, Betsy's life was all about fun. A nonstop good time. As she sees it, its one fun activity after another: belching, screaming, sleeping and pooping. Yes, she thinks life is only about doing what she wants to do, only doing those things she considers fun. Sadly, Betsy got a quick lesson on just how hard this cold cruel world can be.

Poor Betsy, She had no idea what was coming when the nurse came into the room...

The stick......

The heartbreak.....

It's a hard world.....

Its finally over......

Betsy learned when hard things come her way and interrupt her fun of eating, sleeping and pooping, the pain is only temporary and she needs to jump back up and poop again.

Note: Betsy's will be getting more shots next Monday. She's requested no photos be taken this time. Sorry.

One month old!

Betsy turned one month old on April 22.  This was her on the actual day:
 A smile??  Sort of?

But this is her "official" one month picture:
...which was actually taken April 23 but that's the last time I will admit that.  I decided to take her picture sitting in this chair every month for her first year, but the full-chair photo on her actual one month day didn't turn out right.  So I had to cheat a little.  Now let's pretend that didn't happen!

Betsy's first month went great: eats, sleeps, and poops like a champ.  I'm sad to say she grew like a little weed!  We don't go back to the doctor until she's 2 months old, so I don't know exactly how much she weighs right now.  But I do know she's grown out of most of her newborn clothes (sob!) and to Scott and I she just looks BIG! (though to everyone else she is still so tiny)  Betsy is starting to be more alert during parts of the day.  Her eyes look so much wider and brighter all the time.  She still sleeps about 3 hours at a time at night.  A few times she's slept 4 hours, and once she actually slept just shy of 5!  I appreciated that.

Too much cuteness

Yesterday after another fun bath (Betsy would disagree) I got her dressed and tried on some of her hair bows.  Of course she looked completely adorable!

Dress-up time didn't last very long, unfortunately...

Today as I was laying Betsy down in her napper she grabbed onto the little birdie that hangs on the side.  It was so cute to see her cuddling with the birdie while she slept.

A couple of outings to see friends

Not counting her doctor appointments, Betsy's first official outing was on Thursday, March 31.  We packed up her awesome Phil & Ted's stroller and took her downtown to our friend Charles' gallery. (Froelick Gallery)  While there we picked up her painting.  We bought it for her about a month before she was born.  It will eventually be hung in her nursery whenever mom and dad get around to it!
 Betsy loved Charles!  No, really!

After the gallery we had a little family walk around a few blocks and got some Skinnidip fro-yo.  It was fun using the stroller for the first time.  It was also nice getting out of the house for a little bit, although also a little nerve-wracking for me to have Betsy out in public for the first time. (she was just 9 days old)

Back at home again, Betsy did what she does best: slept and slept.  First outing was a success.
I'm now shamelessly showing off the blanket that I made for her, including her monogram that I hand-embroidered. (This kept me occupied during those last few days while I was waiting for her to be born.)

Several days later, on Saturday April 9, Betsy got to go downtown again to see our friend Kendel at his office. (so mom and dad could sign their tax forms, fun fun!)  I carried her in my new Ergobaby carrier, which Betsy loves!  She almost always falls right to sleep when I carry her in it.  I often use the carrier when we're at home so I can get things done with my hands free while she peacefully sleeps.

Loving that view out the window!

First bath- Friday, April 8

Betsy's cord fell off when she was 12 days old.  After waiting a few more days for her belly button to heal, it was time for her first real bath!
Don't be fooled by the half-smile in this picture... Betsy hated her bath.  I wasn't surprised since her least favorite thing in the world is getting her diaper or clothes changed, and she wasn't a fan of the sponge baths we tried giving her either.  She prefers to be covered, dressed, and warm.  (who doesn't, anyway?)

 Traumatized!

All dressed and feeling much better!

Later, we cuddled on the couch and Betsy slept soundly- clean, dry, and wrapped in a big, soft blanket that came in the mail from a friend.  We're glad she survived the trauma of her bath.
